Horses as Healers
We primarily use horses for all equine assisted learning (EAL) activities but sometimes a client prefers to work with smaller animals and between the goats, friendly chickens, cats, and dogs, we can accommodate!
At Little Creek Sanctuary, we take in older, unsound or unwanted farm animals and offer them a soft landing for the rest of their days. We are a sanctuary first so every animal is completely free to engage in an activity or not. Those of the animals who choose to, help us with programs including: Grounding and Mindfulness; PTSD; Depression; Anxiety; ASD; ADHD; Animal hugs for terminal patients and their families; Sibling support program where we teach how horses communicate non-verbally to siblings of non-verbal children; and so much more. The animals can even help with some homework (elementary).
There are two main ways we offer these services:
- Activity based, where we identify a therapy goal together and then design a program tailored to your needs; and
- Emotion based, where the animals become tellers of self and mirrors of souls to help you work through traumas and hang-ups.
It is not necessary to choose only one or the other and we can easily adapt to your needs. We can even switch between the two versions in one single session.
Did you know horses can hear a human heartbeat from four feet away? That they can detect micro changes in your sweat chemistry? Horses are fantastic healers and although at Little Creek we give every animal the choice, there is always at least one that chooses you!
We have AMAZING NEWS to share with you!!!
Thanks to a wonderful donor who wishes to remain anonymous, the first twenty-five people who sign up for services between now and the end of May 2026 will receive a subsidy of 50%! We were lamenting that this is a time when people need support so much more but budgets are stretched so thin for so many and this amazing person offered to cover half the cost of EAL and animal therapy. Our usual fee of $120 per session is therefore reduced to $60 (tax included). All you have to do is sign up before May 31st, 2026 to lock in your rebate and use it before December 31st, 2026.
Each session is one hour but you are welcome to come up to 30 minutes early and stay up to 30 minutes late. We do this because it has a positive impact on both the clients and the sanctuary animals if no one feels rushed and also because we believe that the “feeling” of Little Creek needs to be shared.
